90’s Cruise – Nassau, Bahamas

The ship arrived in Nassau at 7:00a.m. and was scheduled to leave at 2:30p.m. Since we knew we didn’t have a ton of time in Nassau we did not waste our morning away by sleeping in, and got up earlier than we normally would so we could grab a small breakfast before we got off the ship.

Since we have been to Nassau before, my only real goal of the day was to get a geocache since I hadn’t done one here previously. We headed to the Queen’s Staircase since it was somewhere we had not seen before and conveniently there was a geocache. It was a nice walk and we were rewarded with a neat little spot where the steps served as public access between Fort Fincastle and the city of Nassau. It didn’t take long for me to spot the cache. We then went to go check out Fort Fincastle (and go for another a cache) but we could only see it from the outside since it was closed for renovation.

From the fort we walked over to Junkanoo Beach. We stopped at a small beach bar for a drink. This was one of those locations where they encourage you to leave your mark on their building so Tom got to work applying his graffiti. The weather was a little cool so the beach and bar were not booming, but we still enjoyed our time there. Upon leaving the bar we walked down to the end of the beach while I looked for sea glass along the way. I picked up a few pieces but didn’t find anything super spectacular or rare.

Upon leaving the beach we headed over to The Fish Fry area of Nassau to find a place to eat. We ended up choosing a place that didn’t have any reviews, but the ambience seemed right so we rolled the dice. We ordered the conch fritters and a drink and was not disappointed. The conch fritters were super delicious.

We didn’t have a ton of time left in Nassau so we headed back to the ship, but not before we looked for another geocache that was near the dock. We searched and we searched but we couldn’t come up with it. It pained me to have to let it go, but we certainly didn’t want to miss the ship.

While we were out we talked about how nice it would be to have a balcony, if not for the sole purpose to feel the temperature. I did not originally book a cabin with a balcony because it was quite a bit more expensive than a room with a window, but now that we were here and the trip had already been paid for like a year ago, and we knew that the ship was only 75% full, I thought it could be worth asking the front desk how much it would cost to upgrade for the remainder of the trip. We took bets on how much it would cost and set a limit of $1000 for us to do it. As soon as we got back on board we went to the front desk to see if it was even possible and how much it would cost. We were both surprised when they came back and told us it would be $600. That was well below our self-imposed limit so we went for it! And now that we had a balcony room I probably will not be able to go another cruise without getting a balcony. It took us about an hour to pack up our stuff and move to our new room on Deck 8.

We didn’t laligag around our new room too long as we wanted to make sure we caught the Behind The Music Interview with Kid ‘n Play at 3:30 in the TRL. Since Tom had missed their performance there was no way we were going to miss the interview. I was never into Kid ‘n Play however I thoroughly enjoyed their interview. Tom was able to get a picture with Kid and we saw Karen and Carmelita and got a picture with them too.

At dinner we sat at a table for 2 but made conversation with a woman named Missy who was eating by herself at the table next to us. She was super friendly and open on sharing her journey with bells palsy. One day out of the blue about a year ago her lip started to droop. The doctors said that just as quickly as it came on, one day it will just go away. We also talked to another couple who was from Colorado. The woman was somewhat annoying and the man seemed dead inside. Actually as I am writing this it is a week after the cruise and I can’t even picture their faces, but am just going off the notes we wrote at the end of the night. I had the seafood pasta and Tom had the trout. We were both happy with our meals.

After dinner, Tom headed back to the cabin to take a nap and I went and saw Edwin McCain for the one song I new, “I’ll Be”. He sounded good on the other songs too, but I was happy that I got there in time to hear “I’ll Be”. Around 8:30 I went to get Tom and we went to the main theater for En Vogue. Their voices are amazing and the show sounded great.

Although it had already been a full day, we weren’t done. We headed back to the TRL for a performance by Sponge. It was a pretty loud show, but still really good. It was another late night for us as the show ended at 12:45a.m.! What a day!
