Bermudaful Day

November 13, 2019

It was another sunny morning on the balcony sipping hot chocolate. No rainbow was spotted, so I guess they don’t just appear every morning. We had originally planned to walk to Glass Beach this morning, but since it was such a nice morning Erica suggested that a down day relaxing on the beach might be in order. Amanda didn’t oppose and I thought it was a good opportunity for me to hit up some nearby geocaches.

The girls got ready for the beach and took a picture of me so they knew what I was wearing for the worst case scenario if they had to describe to someone what I was wearing if I didn’t return by 1:00 (the time I said I would be back).

View from the first cache I found for the day.

I headed to town and turned down the road near the cache I found the day Erica and I went to the grocery store. As I was getting closer there was a crew working on building a retaining wall where I thought the cache was going to be. Thankfully the cache was past where they working and I was able to get by. After a short hunt and reading previous entries I had the cache in hand. I was able to obtain the next two caches relatively easily without any significant stories to tell.

Can you see the geocaches hiding spot behind me? Second cache of the day.

I probably should have quit while I was ahead but instead I trekked across to the other side of town to attempt another cache. The description said the phone booth had been removed but the cache was still there. Unfortunately I couldn’t tell where a phone booth had ever been and there was a gentleman painting his house in the very near by vicinity. I searched around for a bit, but came up empty handed. I trekked back to to the other side of town to attempt one more but once again came up empty handed. I’m pretty sure I know where the cache was supposed to be at that location, but it wasn’t there. I checked my watch and saw it was creeping close to 1:00 so I headed back to the resort. It was 1:02 when I found Erica and Amanda on the beach. So glad they didn’t have to utilize my photo (Bermuda has a very low crime rate by the way. I have always felt very safe here).

The view near one of the geocaches I found.

We hung out on the beach for a bit, but the clouds had come in and it was starting to drizzle. Erica had a massage scheduled for 2:00 and Amanda and I had one scheduled at 3:00 (we had made these reservations on Sunday based on the weather outlook and I think we timed it perfectly). The massage felt awesome and was reasonably priced (in my opinion) for a resort. What I really appreciated was that gratuity was automatically applied. I wish more places did that. After the massages we utilized the steam room and sauna and came back to the room to get cleaned up.

Although it was after 5:00 we felt it was a bit too early to head to dinner so we played a game of Phase 10. I unintentionally threw off the mojo of the game by switching spots with Erica and dealing in the wrong direction. We all knew it was Erica’s turn to win, but as luck had it, I won with Amanda taking second and Erica in last.

We called a cab and went to a nearby restaurant called Woody’s. Amanda and Erica had a fish sandwich on raisin bread and I had the lobster salad sandwich and conch fritters. Honestly the lobster salad sandwich could have been chicken or any other flavor salad sandwich. The lobster did not have a strong flavor. Erica and Amanda’s fish sandwich was good, but I’m glad I didn’t order it as the hot sauce they put on it would have been too overwhelming for me for an entire sandwich. Erica asked the bartender to call for a taxi to take us back to the hotel, but the bartender said she would ask one of the guys in the bar if they would take us. Erica asked how much it would cost, and the bartender said free. I know what you all are thinking. Yeah you shouldn’t get into cars with strangers, but really everyone here on Bermuda is so friendly and willing to help. So we got in the car and went the mile and half or so to the resort. Erica asked the driver what she could give him for the ride and he said it was normally $5/person but for us it was free. We didn’t feel right about that so Erica gave him $10 which is about what we paid the taxi driver on the way to the restaurant.

We came back and played another round of Phase 10 in which Amanda won, I came in second, and Erica last. Maybe Erica will win tomorrow!! It was a nice relaxing Bermudaful day.
