Pink Sand . . I Guess It Does Exist!

November 15, 2019

We can’t believe it’s our last day. It had been raining in the morning (I didn’t hear it), but I did catch a glimpse of a faint rainbow when I stepped out on the balcony. It was warmer then most mornings, but because of the rain we weren’t able to sit outside for breakfast.

Church Bay

We bought a day pass for the bus and headed to Church Bay. We had planned to stop at Hog’s Bay, but we missed the stop, so we just kept on going. I tried an attempt at a geocache but came up empty handed. I will admit that I’m not spending as much time searching as I normally would and if it’s not jumping out and hitting me in the face I’m moving on.

We had the beach all to ourselves. It was so awesome to enjoy such a pretty place with nobody else around. We stayed there for about an hour and then decided to move on to check out another beach. We had a little time before the bus was due to arrive, so I tried another cache, but again came up empty handed.

Overlooking Jobson’s Cove

The next beach we went to was Warwick Long Bay Beach and Jobson’s Cove. One more attempt at a cache and another do not find. I was done trying to locate caches for the day after this! It just wasn’t meant to be. The beaches were so pretty and we really could see a higher concentration of the pink sand here. Erica and I enjoyed a stroll along the beach looking for shells and sea glass while Amanda made our plan for the rest of the afternoon. We stayed here for a couple of hours and soaked in the sand and sun.

We left the beaches thankful to have had such a nice day to get some sun on our face. We headed towards the bus stop and waited for the bus. After a short bus ride, a transfer to a second bus, and some guidance from helpful Bermudians we found our way to the ferry terminal. The bus passes also allowed us to ride the ferrys which we wanted to take advantage of to go to Hamilton (Alexander Hamilton . . . ). We were amazed at how clear the water was at the ferry terminal and all the fish and coral that we could see right from the dock. The ferry was right on time, but almost left without us because we were waiting for people to get off before we got on, but they started to pull away before we realized that we should be getting on. The workers saw us and were able to put the gangplank back down for us to hop on.

Ferry

They ferry made a couple of stops before our end destination of Hamilton. I didn’t recognize one of the stops right away because I was facing the back of the boat, but when I turned around I realized we were at the ferry terminal that I had walked to on Wednesday looking for a cache that I never found.

Somewhere over near that white building is supposed to be a geocache.

In Hamilton we wanted to do some souvenir shopping and get some ice cream before catching the ferry back. We had about an hour and ten minutes, so we went right to the store that Amanda had wanted to check out. We had gone to their sister store at the Dockyards yesterday and didn’t have a size of a shirt she was looking for, so she was hoping to find it here. Unfortunately, they had closed at 5:00 and it was now 5:10. Thankfully there was another souvenir store still open around the corner that was open until 5:30. Personally I think they had a better selection of stuff, and I ended up buying three shirts for myself (they are all so soft!!). We went to one more store across the street, but it was kind of a bust so we headed for ice cream.

Amanda’s Pineapple Ginger top scoop and Avocado Cinnamon Honey bottom scoop.

At the Yo Cherry! ice cream store they had several different homemade icecreams with some very different flavors like pineapple ginger, avocado cinnamon honey, lavendar honey, and rum raisin. I tried all of these, but I ended up going with strawberry cream. The unusual flavors weren’t terrible, just not for me. Amanda and Erica really liked them.

View of Hamilton from the ferry.

We made it back to the ferry terminal with plenty of time and when we got off the ferry we were able to catch a bus back to our regular bus stop, before we walked the short distance back to the hotel.

We got back shortly after 7:00 and we all started to pack. We didn’t have a microwave in our room, but Erica had found out from talking to the front desk that if we called for room service that they would come and take our Indian leftovers from last night and re-heat them for us and brink them back to us. This worked out so great. One we didn’t waste food; two we were able to multi-task of shower/pack and not have to leave the room; and three we saved money by not having to buy another dinner.

Once we all finished dinner and packing our things we settled in for one more game of Phase 10. Erica was really hoping to get the win, but wasn’t able to pull it off. Amanda won yet again.

This has been such a great trip. Bermuda is beautiful. The time with friends is priceless. We can’t wait to see where we go in 2020!
