90’s Cruise Sets Sail

We didn’t have to leave the hotel until Noonish to get to the ship so it was nice to take our time in the morning. We ate a late complimentary breakfast at the hotel and thanked Lori at the front desk for the advice on the burning cheese. We took a hotel shuttle van to the dock and it was the easiest cruise boarding we have ever experienced. There was hardly a line and we kept our backpacks since the guy loading luggage said that it would probably be best and that we could just walk straight to our cabin with them and not have to wait for them to be delivered. We appreciated his advice and gave him a tip for the useful information. He was spot on, as we were able to go straight to our room and unpack. While unpacking we met our cabin steward, Malik, and he hooked us up with an extension cord for Tom’s CPAP. Before we set out to explore the ship we sat down and figured out how to get connected to the ship’s internet that we had already pre-bought. Somehow we accidentaly set it up a second time resulting in a duplicate charge, but we were able to get it reversed at the tech help station.

Finally we were ready to explore the ship and find a bite to eat. The ship was smaller than other ships we have been on, but honestly it felt like it was just the right size for this experience. It was a beautiful sunny day and was perfect for the sail-away party on the pool deck. The cover band that was playing was called “Saved By The 90’s” and they were really good. We hung out on the upper deck and enjoyed watching people body pass a blow-up doll that Tom named Sex Robot 5000. Before we knew it we were pulling out of the dock and on our way!

At dinner we were seated at a table for two, but it was pretty close to another table for two so we casually struck up a conversation with the couple seated next to us. We quickly learned their names (Matt and Linsay) and that they were both retired from the Army National Guard in Illinois, but are now living in Tampa. We enjoyed talking to them throughout the meal. I had the prime rib and Tom had the New York Strip which we both thought were good.

After dinner we headed straight to the Total Request Lounge (TRL stage) to watch EMF. They were very good and the sound quality was amazing in the intimate space on Deck 11. Their most famous song is “Unbelievable”.

From one concert to the next, we headed to the main theater to wait in line for TLC. While in line we talked to Karen and Carmelita who were very lovely ladies (aunt and niece). We didn’t pay extra to have assigned seats for the main theater shows so it was first come first serve. We chose seats in the upper balcony front row with Karen and Carmelita. The seats were good but when we stood to enjoy the band (which was not even 5 minutes into the show) the people behind us asked us to sit down. We did spy some seats on the upper level middle section that were off to the side that didn’t have any seats behind them that we thought would be good for future shows. TLC was great and they had great sound quality too.

After the concert we went back to the cabin to change into something warm and then went to the rear of the ship at The Rooftop Terrace on the 12th deck to watch Wayne’s World. Even though I have seen this movie a million times I still giggled at all my favorite parts, mostly with lines from Garth . . . “If you’re going to spew, spew into this.” Gets me every time! The movie ended at 12:30 and after a very full first day we headed to bed.
