90’s Cruise – Day 5 Day At Sea – Last Day

It is hard to believe that we are already on our last full day of the cruise. By now we have mastered the scheduled and know that it is going to be another busy day. We woke up early to get some breakfast before we headed to the first event at 9:30 which was “A Peak Behind The Curtain” with the people who produce the 90’s Cruise. It was super interesting, but we were sad to learn that they will not be having a 90’s Cruise in 2027 due to the first two years only selling at 75% capacity. The same company puts on the 80’s Cruise and they are on their 11th year, so they are trying to figure out ways to market or what to change, to get the same turnout for the 90’s as they do the 80’s. Maybe it’s just demographics and those that attend the 80’s have more time and money to be able to do it. Whatever it is, we hope they figure it out so we can go on another 90’s cruise. At this point they said it was not a forever goodbye just a pause, so let’s hope that’s true.

After the feedback session we stayed in the TRL to play Bingo. It cost $59 for 9 cards and 3 games. The cards were split in packs of 3 and 6 so Tom played the 3 cards and I played the 6. Tom and I came close on a couple of the games but unfortunately we did not win. One lady won $800 on the last game. How cool would that have been if we would have won that. It would have paid for our upgraded room. Ah well . . you win some and you lose some.

After Bingo we went straight to the Rendevous Lounge for “Hip Hop 101” with Play of Kid ‘n Play. Although I am not a huge fan of rap I did find the history of hip hop interesting. Play actually teaches the class at a couple of different colleges in his local area. Tom said he was familiar with 90% of what Play taught, where as it was all pretty much new to me.

We left Hip Hop 101 a little early so could make it to the TRL for a Behind the Music Interview with Better Than Ezra hosted by Kat Corbett. I found this interview super enteraining and interesting. The lead singer told a great story of how when they were young tweens they were hanging out at a local hotel lobby because they knew the band Rush was staying there. I don’t remember the details but for some reason Rush needed a ride somewhere and these kids (who didn’t even have their driver’s license) drove them to where they needed to go. Fast forward many years later, Better Than Ezra was stuck somewhere and needed a ride and Rush happened to be there and offered them a ride. Better Than Ezra said they told Rush the story from all those years prior and Rush said they remembered that. I’m sure I hacked that story up, but listening to them tell it was outstanding. When it came time for questions I was prepared to ask “Who is Ezra and why are you better than them?”, but unfortunately the time ran out before I was picked to ask a question.

From the Better Than Ezra interview we went to the pool deck for another performance by Sponge. I striked up a conversation with the guy standing next to me and learned there are many other music themed cruises that we had no idea existed. This cruise has been so great we are ready to do another concert cruise. The one in particular that we have our eye on is “The Summer of 99”. Unfortunately that cruise is already sold out for this April, but Tom has a reminder to check every Friday at Noon for when they release any cabins that have become available. If one does come available I think we would jump on it.

By now we were getting hungry so we went to the buffet and grabbed some pizza. We tried to keep it small, but I will say the pizza was pretty tasty and I probably ate a little more than I should have. From there we went back out to the pool deck to listen to the “Saved By The 90’s” cover band. They sounded just as good as the first time we saw them.

From there we went to the top rear of the ship to watch the movie “Tommy Boy” with Chris Farley and David Spade. I’m sure I must have seen this movie back in the day, but I didn’t remember it at all. It was a little chilly up there and I was glad to have a towel to use as a blanket. I sure didn’t ever envision it being this cool on a cruise.

After the movie we headed back to our cabin to watch the sunset from our balcony. That was such a nice upgrade. It was so peaceful and it was nice to be in the comfort of our own space.

With the sun down we headed to dinner and were shocked that once again we were seated next to Matt and Linsay. This is the fourth time we had dinner together and none of them were really coordinated, and it’s not like we went at the exact same time every night. I mean the time was close within 15-20 minutes, but it did shift. We hadn’t seen them around the ship all day so we found it ironic that we kept meeting up for the evenings and we loved it. I sure don’t remember what we had for dinner and we didn’t take any pictures of it since we were busy catching up with Matt and Linsay, but I can say I don’t think I ever had a a bad meal in the formal dining room.

Since we had time before the Fuel show in the main theater we went to the TRL with Matt and Linsay to see Smash Mouth again. They really are quite entertaining. We did leave the show a little early so we could get in line for Fuel. It worked out great because we got the same seats in the balcony we had all week once we discovered the ones with nobody behind you, and this time Matt and Linsay sat up by us. Fuel was great and we forgot about some of the hit songs they had. We enjoyed watching Zach, the lead singer from Smash Mouth, make his way to the front row to rock out to Fuel. So cool to see the artists going to the other artists shows and events.

After Fuel we went back up to the TRL for drinks and to listen to the Final Jam featuring Robin Wilson of Gin Blossoms and Edwin McCain. We were having a great time and several of the other artists from the week popped up on stage and sang a few songs too. Of course, Zach of Smash Mouth was there. We have literally seen that guy all over the ship. I thought that was pretty cool that he made himself so visible and involved.

With the final show ending at midnight we had worked up a little bit of an appetite and again headed to the buffet with Matt and Linsay for some pizza which we ate outside at the back of the boat. We had such a fun time with them this week. We would have loved to of hang out even longer, but we still needed to go back to our cabin and pack. We were so sad for this cruise coming to an end. It was SO good! The weather may have not been ideal, but everything else was great! Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!
