Catamaran Excursion and Last Day

January 28, 2017

On Thursday we spent the morning relaxing by the pool and walking on the beach. In the afternoon we met up at 2:00 for our catamaran excursion. The first bus didn’t have enough seats so we had to wait about a half an hour for them to bring another bus to pick us up. When we got dropped off to the catamaran Laurie pointed out that we had walked by the area on the previous days geocaching 8 mile hike. The first stop off the catamaran was to snorkel. Tom was excited to try his new prescription goggles. We saw jelly fish, a couple of other varieties of fish, and even a sting ray. I would have liked to snorkel over the reef more, but the guides said no because the waves were coming in too rough and they were worried people would get cut up on the coral. We snorkeled for about 20 minutes before it was time to move to the next location.

Wouldn’t you know, we could see the spot where we couldn’t cross the day before for that geocache. It felt like we were just a stones throw away, but I knew we were actually too far for

This water crossing doesn’t look that bad at low tide. Too bad every time we went it was high tide.

me to go off and adventure to grab it before the boat would be departing. Once back on the catamaran I watched a couple cross where we were stuck. It didn’t appear to be that deep and it gave me the inspiration to possibly make the treck back there the next morning. We arrived back from the excursion with enough time to get ready and have dinner in the Italian restaurant. This was my favorite restaurant thus far.

20170127_071232Friday morning I woke up without the alarm at 6:00. I decided I would make the hike back to the geocache as my exercise for the morning. As a bonus I would be able to watch the sunrise. This time, however I could tell the tide was higher than when we made the trip on Wednesday. I was worried that it might affect my water crossing and I was right. It was too deep to cross without taking a risk of my cell phone
ending up in the ocean. I tried several different approaches, but ultimately decided that I would have to be happy with a nice morning walk along the beach, without the benefit of scoring another cache. I made it back to the resort by 9:45. Unfortunately Tom hasn’t been feeling well for the last couple of days (head cold), and he spent the entire day on Friday in bed. I was able to persuade him to come out for lunch, but after he ate he went back to lie down. Hopefully he will be feeling better for the trip home tomorrow. I spent the afternoon reading a book and soaking in as much of the sunshine and ocean breezes that I could. For dinner, we went to the Mexican restaurant. After dinner we continued our game of Phase 10 that we had started the night before and Linda came out the winner.

It’s hard to believe the week is over already and that we’re heading home tomorrow. Hopefully all travel will go smoothly and Tom will feel better for the journey home.
