Beach Hopping St. Kitts

January 21, 2025

We again took our time getting out the door this morning as I finished up finalizing plans for the next couple of days and didn’t head out until about 11:00a.m. The first beach we stopped at was North Friar’s Bay Beach, which is the beach you can see from the Timothy Hill Overlook. The beach had really soft sand and was nice to walk, but the waves were much too big and rough for swimming or snorkeling. It was a nice start to our day of beach hopping.

Next up we stopped at Turtle Bay Beach. This beach was listed as a good for snorkeling, but again the waves were really rough. I walked the beach for just a bit, but it was caked in seaweed and no treasures to be found. Since we couldn’t snorkel here as originally planned, we moved on.

Next up was Reggae Beach, which is essentially on the same stretch as Cockleshell Beach just on the far end. Even though we are coming to the Reggae Beach Bar on Friday night for Lobsterfest, we decided to sit and enjoy a drink and share a cheeseburger. The burger was ok. I suspect (and hope) that the lobster will be much better. The vibe was nice though.

When we were done eating we walked down the beach and found a little place that was renting chairs. We paid for two chairs and finally got in the water to do some snorkeling. There wasn’t a reef, but in the sea grass below we did spot several starfish and even a turtle! There were just a couple of fish to be seen. When we were done snorkeling, it was nice to relax on the beach chairs. After I had dried off a bit I went on the search of a geocache on the far end of the beach. The cache was supposed to be in a coconut and the last few people didn’t find it but created their own. Like the previous cachers I didn’t find the original cache but a coconut in the exact location the hint said it would be. I signed the coconut and logged it as found.

It was almost 4:00 and we were thinking about leaving when a quick rain shower came through. Even though the shower only lasted 5 minutes we had already packed up our stuff and were ready to head out. We were going to head back to the hotel, but then I remembered that there was a good sea glassing beach right next to the cruise port. I didn’t know the name of the beach so we just made our way towards the port. As we got close I asked Google for the name of the closest beach to the cruise terminal and it directed us in the opposite direction. We followed the GPS and it took us right near our hotel, but on the Caribbean side. I knew this was not the beach I was looking for. Back to the cruise terminal we went (12 minutes drive in the opposite direction). This time we went a little past on the cruise terminal and found the beach. I pulled onto a side street and parked. Tom opted to stay in the car while I walked the beach. It was a treasure trove and the exact type of beach I enjoy looking for treasure. It was not a pretty beach with super scenic surroundings, but the amount of glass to choose from was outstanding! I lovingly refer to this beach as garbage beach but I loved it. I found a lot of neat pottery pieces and colors of sea glass. Unfortunately I did not find any marbles, but I did enjoy the hunt. Since this beach was a lot easier to get to then sea glass beach, maybe I can make it down here again before we leave.

With the sun setting we headed back to the hotel to shower and get ready for dinner. We decided on a pizza place within walking distance. It was nothing fancy, but we did enjoy our chicken pesto pizza and scoop of ice cream.

Tomorrow we are hiking Mt. Liamigua!

Stats of the Day
