Down Day In Maria Chiquita

February 15, 2024

Having no absolute plans today we slept in. I was surprised when I got up and saw that it was overcast skies. This gave us no incentive to rush out the door and when it started to rain we definitely didn’t feel the need to leave. Actually I think we rather enjoyed lounging around and doing a “normal” routine. I video chatted with my Mom for an hour and did a load of laundry. Laurie also texted me and said they were thinking about checking out of their AirBnB early since they were in the middle of a jungle with not much to do. I gave her a call and we decided to reserve a house in Santa Catalina, so I will miss out on the jungle house and meet them in Santa Catalina on Saturday instead.

Finally at 4:00 we got left the room and went down to the beach. The beach is not very long and has a lot of garbage. Definitely not a beach I want to spend a lot of time at. We decided to drive the hour to get two geocaches, but after I was supposed to turn left and the road was blocked and we were re-routed and the second turn-off was blocked we abandoned the attempt and headed back. I didn’t feel like trying to find a restaurant for dinner, so we stopped at the grocery store and got supplies for spaghetti (yes spaghetti again . . . it’s just too easy and I still had a glass of wine I needed to finish).

We got back the room at 7:00 and while I was making dinner Tom made the suggestion of leaving our AirBnB early to spend the night in Panama City. I jumped on the idea. First, the place we are staying doesn’t offer much other than a nice view of the ocean, and second it would cut down on the amount of driving I need to do on Saturday to meet back up with Pete, Laurie, and Linda. Would we lose some money for not staying the extra night? Sure. Will we feel better because we are leaving. 100%.

While we ate dinner we watched the movie “Operation Mincemeat”. It is a World War II story based on real-life events. It was good and soon as it was over we began packing our things so we could leave first thing in the morning.

Overall it was an uneventful day, but neither one of us minded.

Stats of the Day:

Steps: 4,824
Loads of Laundry: 1
Treasures on the Beach: 2 sand dollars 1 piece of small glass
