Belize Day 1 – Because I Can’t Think Of A Better Title

I woke up around 8:00 and took my time getting ready. After getting ready for the day and eating a ham and cheese omelette for breakfast, Linda and I went on a nice long walk. On the way back we stopped at a fruit stand and bought some to take back to the apartment.

Back at the apartment we played a game of Sticks. It had been a long time since we’ve played this game and it took a few minutes of reading the directions before we got back into the swing it and although the game was close, I came out the winner.

After the game we walked to the nearby store and I bought a box of Kleenex. My nose has still been running quite a bit and I thought I would be kind to it by using real Kleenex. On the way back we passed a little stand selling Mexican street corn which I had to try. It was good, but honestly it did not have as much flavor as I thought it would. Granted I did tell them to go light on the seasoning since I wasn’t sure how spicy it would be, but now that I know, I would put it on a little heavier.

The street corn was just a little appetizer for me because not long after we got back we went to grab lunch from a little outdoor kitchen a block or so from our apartment. I had grilled chicken, rice, beans, and coleslaw. It was good and was a lot of food so I quit when I got full and saved the rest for later.

After lunch Linda and I took the golf cart to go find a geocache and check out a walking trail I had found on the map. Driving on the roads here remind me very much of the roads on base in Djibouti. Partly because we used a golf cart there too, but mainly because of how bumpy it is. The geocache was located at a restaurant and one of the workers came out to greet us when we pulled up. I asked her if she knew about the geocache and she pointed me in the right direction, although I believe I would have found it without her assistance, but it was nice to just be able to grab it and not struggle. She also had a menu on her so I took a picture to look at it later to take it under consideration.

Leaving the restaurant we went on to find the walking trail. We missed the turn in for it on our first pass, but found it on the second. The sign was pretty worn and so was the boardwalk. We didn’t make it very far at all before we opted to abandon it.

When we got back to the apartment I hung out on the patio and typed up the blog entry before Pete, Laurie, and I went for a walk. We hadn’t gone very far when we stopped at a little convenience store to pick up a few things. We walked out of the store and into rain so we hurried back to the apartment where we played another game of Sticks that I also won. For dinner I ate my leftovers from lunch and Linda and I watched several episodes of “The Last Frontier”, a series on Apple TV. It was midnight when we finally called it for the night and I crashed on the couch.

Stats of the Day

Steps: 16,710 (although I did walk a bit, I think the bumps from the golf cart account for several of them)

Geocaches: 1 attempted/1 found
