Back On The Roads of Grenada

We were out the door by 10:30 and our plan was to explore the beaches on the North side of the island. To do this we would have to re-trace the route we did with Izzy, but this also meant we were familiar with the roads and traffic. We thought our first stop should be back at Jendie’s Restaurant where we picked lunch up with Izzy. We weren’t there for the food, but we were hoping to get that great sorro and guava drink. Unfortunately they didn’t have it today, but they did have a Golden Apple Juice that we each got. We knew that just because it said apple that it really wouldn’t taste like apple. I definitely tasted a hint of ginger and lemon. It was good but not as good as the sorro guava drink.

We made our way to Levera Beach. The surf was a little rough and the tide was up and we found the sand to be super hot. We basically just stopped to take a look and a picture before we got back in the car to head the short distance to Bathway Beach. At Bathway Beach we walked a long stretch of the beach with a cute dog who decided to accompany us. There was not a lot of treasure to be found on the beach but it felt good to stretch our legs and have our feet in the sand and water after having been in the car for a couple of hours.

It is great that we built a connection with Izzy the other day. We once again reached out to her. This time it was for a recommendation of where to eat on the side of the island where we were. She responded with a restaurant named Dre Flavors Restaurant. She mentioned that not only did they have excellent food, they also had a baby monkey on the property. That was all we needed to hear to plug it into our GPS and head there. We were the only customers but Izzy was absolutely correct. Not only was the baby monkey super cute (even though it was in an enclosure) but the food was excellent. I had the curried lambie (which is conch), Amanda had the ribs, and Erica had the shrimp tacos. We all really enjoyed all of our food, and Amanda and Erica really enjoyed the cornbread.

After we were done eating I rememberd to check my phone to see where any geocaches might be. I’m glad I did as we were just a mile from one of the few physical caches that are on the island. We had to backtrack just a bit but it wasn’t difficult to get to the little hotel on the side of the road where the geocache was located. I wallked right to the spot and made the find. I didn’t have a pen with me so I went into the hotel lobby and asked to borrow one. I asked her if she knew about the geocache and she did not.

We got back on the road and went to Mt Carmel Waterfall. We had to pay $2/person to access the trail but I think it was worth it. It was a nice easy hike compared to the hike we did to Seven Sister’s Waterfalls. There was nobody else around and we debated if we should swim. I was feeling pretty warm and sweaty and though it might feel refreshing so I decided to get in. I’m glad I did. It felt great! I was able to get right up under the waterfall.

The waterfall was our last stop of the day and we raced the sunset back to the AirBnB. With these hilly, curvy roads I am not interested in driving too many miles in the dark. We stopped at the grocery store on the way back for Amanda and Erica to pick up another six-pack of different flavored fruity beers to try.

Back at the BnB we did a load of laundry and set out to play some Swoop. We had combined three decks of cards previously but thought we could really get by with just two decks so we began to sort them back out. We soon discovered that we did not have three complete decks at all. I have 6 decks of identical cards that we use to play Swoop at home and I just grabbed 3 decks assuming that they had been separated after the last time we played. Apparantly not. Since Swoop doesn’t use suits (just numbers) we were able to put together two decks minus Kings. Out of all the cards we had, there were only two kings so we just opted to play without them. We played one game of Swoop, which I came out on top and then it was time to watch the Brewers win Game 3 of the NLDS! Let’s do this Brewers!
